Piovene Rocchette

Piovene Rocchette is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1411 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto region. The municipality is situated approximately 25 kilometers north-northwest of Vicenza at the foot of Monte Summano. By Piovene Rocchette the Astico flows.

Traffic

In Piovene Rocchette the Autostrada A31 detta Valdastico, the Tangential Vicenza ends. The narrow-gauge railways, which led from Rocchette coming from Schio, Asiago or Arsiero are all closed since the 1950s. The ( standard gauge ) connection to Thiene in 1964 shut down.

Trivia

With the Peugeot Type 3 the first automobile in Italy was approved in 1893 Piovene Rocchette on Gaetano Rossi. The rise of Piovene Rocchetto to Monte Summano is a pilgrimage to the mountain sanctuary on the mountain plateau.
