Pipeline transport

Under Pipeline transportation as a special form of traffic management is defined as the transport of liquids and gases ( gas transportation ) and liquid-gas, liquid-solid and gas - solid mixtures through pipelines. This is a particularly highly specialized form of a mode of transport, with the implementation of the transport process to special procedures and equipment ( transport) is resorted to.

Examples: transportation of oil and natural gas, water transport (including for the transfer of heat energy ), coal dust transport etc.

The pneumatic tube could be counted in principle also for pipeline transport - as a special form of the solid-gas - transport (capsule and air). However, the size of the capsules of fluid or aerodynamic reasons is limited, so that larger pipe transport systems (eg project CargoCap, University of Bochum) lose the characteristic of the pipeline transport properties and then rather than " Only tunnel systems " (eg subways ) should be called.
