Geography
The County is located in southwestern Minnesota on the Coteau des Prairies mentioned plateau, which extends to the south to Iowa and South Dakota to the west. It is bordered on the west by South Dakota and has an area of 1207 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. At the Pipestone County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Pipestone County was formed on 23 May 1857 parts of Brown County. It was named after the quarries of the mineral Catlinit, carve out of the Plains Indians the heads of their peace pipes. The pits are reported as Pipestone National Monument.
