Piranha Bytes

Piranha Bytes is a team of developers for computer games and is a trademark of Pluto 13 GmbH. Piranha Bytes was founded in Bochum in 1997, the headquarter is located in Essen today.

History

On October 12, 1997, during the development of the computer game Gothic the Piranha Bytes Software GmbH, leaves the company Greenwood out, founded by Alex Brüggemann, Mike Hoge, Stefan Nyul and Tom Putzki. In 1999, the Piranha Bytes Software GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Phenomedia AG. Following a financial scandal and the bankruptcy of the parent company in 2002, the management and some employees of the Piranha Bytes Software GmbH bought in a management buy-out (MBO) the rights to the computer games and founded the Pluto 13 GmbH. In March 2003, drew Piranha Bytes from Bochum to Essen to. All shareholders of Pluto 13 GmbH employees.

The Pluto 13 GmbH is a founding member of the company founded in Berlin on 6 March 2004 the Federation of developers of computer games (GAME ).

On 22 May 2007 Piranha Bytes reported the separation from her former publisher JoWooD. With the add-on Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods after the first one the Gothic series game was not developed by Piranha Bytes. On 18 June 2007 it was announced that Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver ( games label of Koch Media ) will work together in the future.

Piranha Bytes, 2007 remained without the rights to develop in the Gothic universe, but developed with the Risen series on Gothic -style games. On 2 October 2009 laid by Deep Silver Risen appeared.

At Gamescom 2010 Risen 2 was announced on 27 April 2012 which finally appeared under the publisher Deep Silver. Risen 2 was nominated six times for the German Developer Award 2012 ( Best RPG, Best Graphics, Best Sound, Best German Game, Best Game Design, Best Console game), as well as the studio itself ( Best Studio 2012 ). But was recovered only in the category "Best RPG".

In January 2013, died founding member Alex Brüggemann. In February 2014, the development of Risen 3 was announced.
