Pirate Parties International

Pirate Parties International ( PPI) is the international World Association of Pirate Parties. The organization was created in 2006 as a loose association of nascent Pirate Parties. In April 2010, the PPI was officially established. Currently it has 42 members (as of September 2013).

Task and structure

The PP International supports and coordinates establishment plans of Pirate Parties around the world. In addition, it is used for internal communication. It has operated international forums and mailing lists.

Leading the organization of the PPI Board, consisting of two co-chairs, the Treasurer, the Secretary and three other members.

History

After the founding of Piratpartiet in Sweden on 1 January 2006 arose throughout Europe and later worldwide, more pirate parties. In the same year was a loose network of these parties. In June 2007, the first time representatives of the Pirate Parties of Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain, Ireland, Denmark and Finland met at an international conference in Vienna. 2008 was followed by further conferences in Berlin and Uppsala. In Uppsala Andrew Norton (USA) was elected PPI coordinator and adopted the Uppsala Declaration.

In early 2009 they met in Helsinki in August 2009 by a core team ( core team ) under the leadership of Patrick Maechler ( Switzerland ) and Samir Allioui (Netherlands) has been installed. Since October 2009, the PPI has the status of a non-governmental organization ( Feitelijke vereniging ) based in Belgium.

At a conference from 16 to 18 April 2010 in Brussels, finally, was the official establishment of the PPI, in which involved 22 national Pirate Parties. The Federal Congress of the German Pirate Party of 15 to 16 2010 in Bingen officially confirmed the accession of the German party. The first official General Assembly of the PPI was held in Friedrichshafen, Germany on March 12 and 13, 2011. On April 14th and 15th 2012, the second general meeting was held in Prague. The third General Assembly was held in Kazan on 20 and 21 April 2013.

Members

Under the Articles, only parties can join, perform a variation of the word "pirates" in the name. Per country only one party can be a voting member. Other organizations may be an observer member.

* Founding Members

The membership of the Pirate Party of Ireland (founding member ) was repealed in June 2012, after the party had dissolved.
