Pirate Party of the Netherlands

The Piratenpartij, also Piratenpartij Nederland (short: PPNL ) is a Dutch party. It was founded in 2006 informally, but officially registered only on 10 March 2010 as a party. She took in June 2010 for the first time participated in the Dutch parliamentary elections.

The party is limited to a few key policy statements. You want to limit the Dutch Copyright, change the patent law, the ( digital ) protect and strengthen civil rights as well as make the work of government more transparent and strengthen data protection in the administration.

The party is part of the international movement of Pirate Parties. She is a member of Pirate Parties International ( PPI) and sees international cooperation as an essential way to achieve their goals.

On 12 April 2010 the Piratenpartij announced to participate in the elections to the Second Chamber of the States General on 9 June 2010. The candidate list included 14 candidates, led by party leader Samir Allioui and game designer Eva Jobse. They reached 0.11 % ( 10,471 votes). In the early parliamentary elections on 12 September 2012, the party almost tripled its share of the vote, although with the top candidates Dirk Poot, but was still well away from winning a mandate. In the nationwide local elections of 19 March 2014, succeeded the Piratenpartij in Stadtteilrat of Amsterdam West to gain their first mandate in the Netherlands.
