Pitched roof

A pent roof is a roof shape from a single sloping roof. The lower edge forms the roof eaves, the upper ridge of the roof. On both sides there are the verges. The wall at the ridge is called the Hohe Wand. The usual design is a single sloped roof rafter. The roof pitch of pent roofs is usually low.

In the European architectural history, pent roofs are usually found on the affiliated parts of buildings, for example, via bay windows, extensions or side aisles of basilicas. The main roof of a building, however, they are rarely found in the historic architecture.

Since industrialization pent roofs are used primarily for roofing garages, production and storage facilities or outbuildings. From the mid-20th century, the pent roof is also often used as the main roof for residential buildings or churches, to set an architectural accent. In houses the living room can be used under the roof by a slightly sloping shed roof as a full basement. The easy-to -constructing roof form is cost effective in the establishment. The orientation of a designed as the main roof panel roof is directed traditionally to the weather side ( West ) towards to keep wind, rain and snow. Shed roofs that were designed together with a photovoltaic system are, on the other hand pointed at the sun side. In winter, use the flat -lying sun optimally installed solar systems, in summer, the roof a good shading.

Apart from tiles and slate pent roofs with roofing felt or sheet can be covered.

Ring pent roof

In this roof shape is a lean-to roof with circular plan. This type of roof has a certain similarity with a conical roof, however, constitutes only a truncated cone. It has neither a gable verges or even a ridge. In addition to the round shape of this roof is characterized by two roof rings. Between the two rings a roof tower wall ring runs. Ring Shed roofs are found mainly in central buildings with a circular ground plan, so for example with circular towers. They rarely form the main roof, but usually cover a projecting part or a return. This roof form is used mainly in representative and sacral buildings for use.
