Pitt County, North Carolina

Pitt County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greenville, named after Nathanael Greene, a general in the American Revolutionary War.

Geography

The County is located in east-central North Carolina and has an area of ​​1696 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Martin County, Beaufort County, Craven County, Lenoir County, Greene County, Wilson County and Edgecombe County.

Pitt County is divided into 15 townships: Arthur, Ayden, Belvoir, Bethel, Carolina, Chicod, Falkland, Farmville, Fountain, Greenville, Grifton, Grimesland, Pactolus, Swift Creek, and Winterville.

History

Pitt County was formed in 1760 from parts of Beaufort County. It was named for William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, a British statesman and Prime Minister.
