Pittsburg County, Oklahoma

Pittsburg County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is McAlester.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-east of Oklahoma and has an area of ​​3569 square kilometers, of which 186 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: McIntosh County, Haskell County, Latimer County, Pushmataha County, Atoka County, Coal County and Hughes County.

History

Pittsburg County was formed on 16 July 1907 as the original County of Choctaw country. It was named after Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the place of origin of some of the first settlers.
