Piura is a city in the north of the South American Andean country of Peru and the regional capital of Piura, located on the Piura River.

With around 362,000 inhabitants ( 2005) Piura is the sixth largest city in the country. Even if Piura was founded in 1532 by Francisco Pizarro as San Miguel de Piura and that was the first Spanish city to the bottom of what is now Peru, only a few buildings have survived from the colonial era. Literary world, the city was known by the novel " La casa verde " ( German title: The green house ) by Mario Vargas Llosa.

The most famous son of the city is the Peruvian Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario and national hero.
