Pius Keller

Pius Keller ( born September 30, 1825 Ballingshausen, † March 15, 1904 in Muennerstadt ) was a German Augustinian hermit. He is regarded as a restorer of the Augustinian Order in Germany.

Life

Pius Keller grew up as the son of simple peasants in Lower Franconia. Because of its great intellectual talent it a higher education was made possible by the Church. Shortly after his ordination he joined the Augustinian Order in 1849 in a. Already in 1853 he was elected prior of the monastery Muennerstadt. Pius Keller took a total of 53 years as Prior, Commissioner-General and Provincial leadership roles in his Order true. In its commitment towards the Bavarian- German Augustinian province could be reestablished. Order Internally, he pushed through an improvement of monastic discipline.

Pius was the basement, according to reports from witnesses a gifted preacher with a deep love of sacramental confession and stood as far back in the odor of sanctity. He died on March 15, 1904 in Muennerstadt and was buried in the local monastery church. The Diocese of Würzburg opened the beatification process in January 1934.
