The Pizzo di Coca (also Pizzo Coca ) is with 3052 meters slm the highest mountain in the Bergamo Alps. He belongs to a saddle height of 1878m the most prominent mountain in the Alps.

Location

The mountain is located south of Sondrio in the Italian region Lombardy. He rises above the town Valbondione at the north end of the Val Seraiana. Together with its neighboring peaks Pizzo di Redorta and Punta di Scais it includes a large, open to the south Karkessel whose northeastern cornerstone he is and where the small lake Lago di Coca is ( 2108 m slm ). Slightly below the south end of the boiler is situated on a steep rock step Rifugio Coca, which usually serves as a starting point for the ascent.

The highest point of the mountain forms a narrow, almost horizontal ridge height, which carries two peaks: the main southern summit, where a 1978 -built summit cross is, and the lower by about three meters north summit. In about 600 m high north-west wall is located about 300 meters below the north summit of small glaciers Vedretta dei Marovin. Ascent

The labeled normal route leads from Rifugion di Coca (1892 m slm ) via the southeast ridge to the summit. From the hut, go up first on a small, approximately 60 meters higher plateau from which you accessed via steep grassy slopes to the south ridge. This is followed by the path in steep rocky terrain up to the Forcella Bocchetta del Polledrino. From there you cross slightly uphill the southeast flank to the southeast. This is followed by the path to the summit, where climbing sections have to be overcome until the Second difficulty. The first ascent of Pizzo di Coca took place on September 4, 1877 by Emilio Torri together with the leader Antonio Baroni.
