PKN Orlen

PKN Orlen is a Polish oil and gas station company with headquarters in Płock, the gas station chains Orlen and Star operates among others in Germany.

History

The Polish oil company PKN Orlen in 1999 through a merger of the two former state-owned corporations Petrochemia Płock SA and Centrala Produktów Naftowych (CPN ) produced and has been the market leader in Poland with petrol stations in 1927 and 70 percent market share in wholesale and 28 percent market share in the retail motor fuels. The brand name Orlen is derived from the Polish word Orzel ( Eagle) and Energia (Energy). The eagle ( head ) is also the hallmark dar. the end of 2008, the Group had Orlen petrol stations in 2681: in 1803 in Poland (of which 406 Bliska ), 509 in Germany (including 13 Orlen, 463 Star and 33 supermarket stations), 334 Benzina in the Czech Republic and 35 in Lithuania (as of end of 2008).

Since March 2003, PKN Orlen is represented on the German market and operates as Orlen Germany GmbH 527 stations (according to website) (3 percent market share in Germany ).

The German company's headquarters is located in Elmshorn in Schleswig -Holstein.

Since May 24, 2005 PKN Orlen owns 63 percent of the Czech chemical company Unipetrol, its 100 percent subsidiary is the largest with 334 stations Czech gas station chain Benzina. In August 2008, Unipetrol showered for the first time since 1997 a dividend, which PKN Orlen received about 84.5 million euros.

On December 16, 2006 PKN Orlen has taken over 85 percent of the shares of the Lithuanian refinery Mažeikių Nafta. For PKN Orlen paid 852 million U.S. dollars to the Lithuanian state treasury for 33.66 percent of the shares and 1.49 billion U.S. dollars to the Russian company Yukos for 53.7 percent of the shares. To Mažeikių Nafta include 35 stations. The refinery has the wholesale fuels for 80 percent and 4 percent retail market share.

Since June 2011, the Group operates in Wloclawek and Płock a complex for the production of terephthalic acid. The systems will annually deliver 600 thousand tons of the substance and are the second largest complex of its kind in Europe.
