PKP class EP08

The locomotives of the series EP08 Polish State Railways ( PKP) are electric locomotives for the transport of high-speed trains.

The Polish rail network allows only a few routes speeds higher than 120 km / h In order to exploit the capabilities of these routes, a variant (type 4EA ) was developed with a modified gear in 1972 by the well-proven since 1965 series EU07 (type 4E), the gear ratio is in the EP08 77: 24 instead of 79: 18 in the EU07. Although thus resulted in a constructive top speed of 160 km / h it was limited to 140 km / h. Otherwise, no changes to the design have been made, the locomotives of the series EP08 were however different from those of the EU07 series an orange paint to make them visually emphasized as being high-speed locomotives. Of this type, four locomotives were built by Pafawag in Wroclaw and as EP08 -002 queued to EP08 -005.

1973, the prototype of a modified design was completed 102E with roller bearings rather than plain bearings and adopted as the EP08 -001. The series delivery took place in the years 1975 and 1976 and included ten locomotives ( EP08 - EP08 - 006 to 015). Due to lack of funds for the import of the bearings under remained the further procurement.

The four locomotives with plain bearings EP08 EP08 -005 -002 to 1976 and 1977 were converted to the EU07 - EU07 - 241 to 244. The remaining locomotives were in 2004 except for the EP08 - 014 and EP08 -015 still in existence. They are located in the depot Warsaw and are used for intercity and express trains. EP08 -007, in 2007, the blue paint of PKP Intercity.
