PKP class SM02

The PKP SM02 Series is a simple shunting of type LS40, which was used for light shunting duties at stations.

From 1952 to 1961 a total of 581 locomotives were produced, which could not be translated because of their low power in service with the Polish railways PKP. The low service weight of only 16 tons, and the compact design could be just a few applications for the smallest in Poland after World War II diesel locomotive built. Unlike the state railway operation, the series enjoyed as Kleinstlok for industrial sidings and industrial railways lively use. By now, most locomotives were either sold or scrapped, as the decline in local freight shipments, the fields of activity can always continue to shrink. Some of the locomotives were retrofitted with more powerful engines.

About ten specimens have been preserved in museums, LS40 - 4043 is worked from a Polish railway club and should be made ​​operational again.
