PKP class SM03

The PKP SM03 Series is a simple shunting of type LS150 and 2Ls150.

Construction and Technology

From 1959-1969, the Polish company Fablok and Zastal made a total of 273 specimens of type LS150 and 2Ls150 that differ by various gear types. Type locomotives LS150 have only one speed level (25,7 km / h) that the design 2Ls150 two ( 25.7 and 45.8 km / h ).

The structure consists of a fixed frame on the two porches and the cab are mounted. The 110 -kW diesel engine transmits power through a mechanical transmission on the two axes. The locomotive is braked to a compressed air brake Knorr and a hand brake.

The locomotives 01-229 and 270, 316, 539 and 645 were from 1959 to 1967 at Fablok locomotives from 1968 to 1969 at Zastal built 230-269.

Use

In the Polish railways PKP SM03 the series was mostly used for simple shunting at railway stations. The performance was enough to move other locomotives or move several coaches. For use in rail yards they were mostly too weak. In industrial railways and industrial sidings series locomotives SM03 were used. For the less shunting freight cars, power was adequate.

Due to their size and appearance of the series is SM03 as Kogucik ( German: Chicken ) referred to or Kaczka ( duck).

Several copies are still used today.
