PKP class SM31

The locomotives of the series SM31 Polish State Railways ( PKP ), diesel locomotives for the carriage of freight trains and for shunting.

Under the type designation 411D developed Fablok Chrzanów from 1973 Rangierdiesellokomotive based on the SM42 series developed. 1976 two prototypes as SM31 -001 and -002 were completed. In contrast to the SM42 SM31 was designed as a six-axle locomotive with higher performance. The two prototypes were not reimbursed by the PKP, but delivered to industrial companies.

Series production began with SM31 -003. Until 1985 167 SM31 were delivered to the PKP. A further 28 identical locomotives were built under the designation LS1200 for industrial enterprises. One of them came as SM31 -170 to the PKP. Parallel to the LS1200 Polish industrial railways were supplied with the corresponding series SM48 type TEM2 and Series T 669.0 of the Czechoslovak State Railways corresponding type S200.

Some SM31 were already retired. 2007, there were 112 SM31 in the existence of the PKP and the entire network with transfer trains and as shunting locomotives in use.
