PKP class ST43

The locomotives of the series ST43 of the Polish State Railways ( PKP ), diesel locomotives, primarily for the carriage of freight trains.

ST43 series of PKP

In 1965, PKP procured by the Romanian Lokomotivfabrik Electro Putere locomotives built since 1959 060DA type. This was based on licenses of three Swiss companies: Sulzer (diesel engine), BBC ( electrical part) and SLM ( mechanical part) and had previously been delivered as series 60 to the Romanian railways. In contrast to these, the locomotives of the ST43 series received the usual for PKP large headlights.

From 1965 to 1978, the PKP 422 ST43, ST43 -156 from which a new type of engine was used received. The locomotives from STST43 -278 were prepared for receiving automatic central buffer couplings and thus slightly longer and heavier.

Due to lack of train heating the area of operation of the ST43 series is restricted largely to freight transport, especially in the summer they are also used by passenger trains. In parallel with the series ST43 ( and even after their procurement end ) was procured for the same application, the ST44 series.

The ST43 series is mostly already retired, 2004, there were still 164 locomotives in the stock of PKP and deployed throughout the country.

Type 060DA with other railways

In addition to the 60 series already mentioned the CFR received similar locomotives of Class 62, these were converted from 2004 in the series 65 and 63, respectively. Held by the CFR came Locomotives to Polish and German private railways such as the ChemTransLogistics and Karsdorfer railway company. Under the name of ND2 379 locomotives were delivered to China from 1979 to 1990.
