PLA2R1

Phospholipase A2 receptor ( PLA2R ) is a type 1 transmembrane protein that binds several types of phospholipase A ₂. PLA2R is one of the four mannose receptors occurring in mammals. PLA2R is mainly expressed in human kidney by podocytes of the renal corpuscle. Although the exact physiological function of the phospholipase A2 receptor is not known so far, it is clear that the receptor takes part, by binding to the specific phospholipase on both the positive and negative regulation of its function, as well as at their disposal. General PLA2R is to bind able lectins ricin - type.

Medical importance

The formation of autoantibodies against PLA2R leads to membranous glomerulonephritis, chronic kidney disease, which is associated with high protein loss in the urine and increasing renal impairment.
