Plagiochila asplenioides
Plagiochila is a liverwort genus of order Lophocoleales.
Features
Plagiochila is powerful plants with a creeping stems, the branches are mostly upright. The edge leaves are grown at an angle. At the front edge are straight, curved and serrated on the back edge. The lower leaves are inconspicuous and may be absent. The plants are getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). Male plants have a dense spike- like terminal Stämmchenabschnitt.
Dissemination system
Plagiochila is a genus of Plagiochilaceae family. It is the most species-rich genus of liverworts and includes more than 500 species that occur mostly in the tropics. In Europe and Macaronesia 14 species are endemic, mainly in atlantic toned areas. In Germany, the following species are native:
- Plagiochila asplenioides
- Plagiochila porelloides
- Plagiochila punctata
