Plague cross

The Plague is a special form of Flurkreuz or the grave crosses, and was built to commemorate the victims of the great medieval and modern plague epidemics. They are found both in cemeteries, in the mass grave Department, Pestfriedhöfen own, as well as on a limb. Identification of medieval stone crosses, where perhaps also older crosses around graveyards were created with Pestkreuzen is probably absolutely mind that the contemporary wooden crosses have not received - the crosses of the first epidemics in the history of the plague still fall under the stone cross type.

In southern Germany and Austria often joined the Plague take the place of the cross. Also, there are monuments that remind Peststein as to the disease.

An example of a well-preserved stone plague cross is found on a plague cemetery in Bürener state forest near Bad Wünnenberg- Leiberg in (North Rhine -Westphalia). The fragmentary inscription (missing or questionable letters in parentheses ) is:
