Plakinidae

Oscarella lobularis, a representative of the Plakinidae.

The Plakinidae are a family from the class of Horn siliceous sponges ( Demospongiae ). They are the only family of the order Homosclerophorida that the only order of the subclass Homoscleromorpha (Size: DC Hart -shaped ) is. A total of 11 species are considered as Plakinidae.

Members of the Plakinidae have a membrane between the epidermis and the more inner layers. Thus, the epithelial and ciliated cells of the outside are no longer connected directly to the mesohyl, a direct material or cell exchange is probably no longer possible.

Furthermore, the Plakinidae have only small, but very uniformly trained spicules. The larvae of Plakinidae appear as free floating, two-piece on blastula ( sg Amphiblastula ).
