Plan of Ayutla

The Plan of Ayutla was adopted on March 1, 1854 in Ayutla de los Libres and aimed at the deposition of President Antonio López de Santa Anna.

The liberal Juan Alvarez Benítez and some opponents of Santa Anna blamed this oppression, the abolition of the representative democracy and, because de disposal Mexican territory in the Gadsden Purchase, of treason. Notable supporters of the plan have included Benito Juárez and Ignacio Comonfort.
