Planer (metalworking)

Planers are used by cutting both the wood and in metal working.

In contrast to the shock machine the workpiece takes place the chisel the feed motion. This can also be achieved long cuts. Disadvantage is the large power requirement, which is caused by the reverse acceleration of the table and workpiece mass.

Among the machines for wood working there are different types: the planer, the planer, the four side planer or the Universal planer.

In metal processing flat or curved surfaces are created by planing. As tools planing tools are used. The cutting motion is rectilinear, it is carried out from the workpiece. Since the workpiece must be returned after each cut ( return stroke ), this type of processing inefficient than others and is increasingly of this method - mostly by milling - displaced. In addition, the oscillating movement of the workpiece carriage drive is technically more complicated.
