Planet Earth (TV series)

Planet Earth ( Original title: Planet Earth ) is an eleven-part BBC documentary series, which is a comprehensive portrait of the earth. Five parts were shown in 2006 in the First. A second season with five parts was broadcast in early 2007.

Launched in early 2008 in the German cinemas of the accompanying film Our Earth, is primarily composed of (not previously used partially ) the material of the TV series.

Success

Production

Due to the high cost of production filmed in high definition series had to worldwide join together to produce and market channels. Planet Earth is an international co-production with the BBC, Discovery Channel, NHK Japan, the Canadian CBC and the German broadcasters WDR and BR. In addition, as already in the previous series, The Blue Planet, the material of the series - including unpublished sequences - used it to produce a feature film released in 2007. The film, Our Earth, ran in Germany on 7 February 2008.

German versions of ARD universe / ORF

The spokesman for the German -speaking German version of the first five episodes shown is the actor and voice actor Claus Wilcke. The German -speaking Universum-/ORF-Version picture is the same, but spoken with a slightly different text ( translation tolerance) by Franz Robert Wagner. The second season, which was shown on ARD, is, however, commented by Norbert Langer. Later, the first season was broadcast in the third programs with the commentary by Norbert Langer.

The theme song of the German version of the song is Hoppipolla by Sigur Rós. The main theme was recorded by the BBC Orchestra. The German version is reduced by about 5 minutes per episode compared to the original.

Episodes

The documentary Planet Earth is divided on DVD in 11 episodes of 45 minutes each. Due to the broadcasting of two squadrons were formed of five and six episodes. The total running time of 495 minutes at this additional 280 minutes of bonus material. Compared to the original series, which contains eleven parts, was absent from the broadcast of Planet Earth in the First result jungle worlds ( Jungles ). This would have been Episode 8, the original order, however, was not observed. The missing sequence has now been aired in some third party programs.

Bonus Disc (DVD)

German titles on Blu -ray and HD DVD in original length

January 25, 2008 polyband released the complete series in uncut version in high definition on Blu -ray Disc and HD DVD. Since the German synchronization of the ARD is only 45 minutes per episode, there is no German comment for short periods of time.

In addition to the consequences of the ARD -Series, the collection includes also the episode 8 (jungle worlds) on disc 3 and a bonus disc with the two films Desert Lions and Snow Leopards in English with German subtitles. In addition, cave worlds are (part 4) and desert worlds (Part 5), contrary to the ARD broadcasting, in the correct order before.

Naming conflict

The series is not to be confused with the series " Planet Earth ", which is broadcast on Bavarian TV at night, before the night loop for about 5 minutes and a documentary with music comment describes a regional area of the earth.

Planet Earth has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for four BAFTA TV Awards.
