Plantage (Amsterdam)

The Plantagebuurt ( German: Plantation neighborhood ), also known as " plantation " or " plantation Amsterdam ", is a district in the city center of Amsterdam and had, together with the residential area Weesperbuurt around 7280 inhabitants ( as of early 2012).

History

The Plantagebuurt borders on the Nieuwe Herengracht ( New Herengracht ), the plantation Muidergracht, Singel canal and the Entrepotdok.

To 1662/1663 ( vierde vergroting van de stad ) of the Amstel was the fourth extension of Amsterdam decided that the area east to farm. The northern part, today's plantation was of municipal executive board ( Gemeentebestuur ) divided into plots that were rented out as a garden. The bridge with the 259 over the canal to the plantation Kerklaan was named after the resistance fighter Laura Carola Mazirel ( 1907-1974 ).

2011 had 16 cultural institutions in the eastern city of Amsterdam, including the Plantagebuurt, more than four million visitors. In 2006 it was 3,400,000. The museums, theaters have been working for more than 10 years together under the name Plantage Amsterdam.
