Plantarflexion

Plantar flexion is occasionally used, anatomic- functional designation for the movement of the foot in the ankle in plantar direction. It corresponds essentially to the movement of the foot when " accelerate " during the auto procedure.

Although this direction of motion appears to be more a stretching, due to the perpendicular position of the foot to the lower leg, the terms extension and flexion can be used at the base corresponding to the directions defined by the wrist, in turn, are modeled on the movement of the finger ( Extension = stretching: movement of the fingers or the hand towards back of the hand; flexion = diffraction: movement toward the palm). To avoid misunderstandings, therefore usually the part of word " plantar " prepended ( sole of the foot down ) during flexion of the foot still in the extension part of word " dorsal " (for instep back ). In particular, in the movements of the ankle joint extension is often referred to as " diffraction " or " snapping " because the " stretching " with the " stretching " of the leg is associated, but this is anatomically wrong!

The flexion of the toes is usually referred to only as flexion; here, however, would be the term plantar flexion also anatomically correct.
