Plateau languages
The plateau - languages form a subgroup of the platoiden languages , a branch of the Benue - Congo languages , which in turn belong to the Niger - Congo.
The plateau around 40 languages are spoken by about two million people in West and Central Nigeria. Its distribution center is the central Nigerian Jos Plateau, after which they are named. The plateau languages consist of four genetic units that are geographically divided into West, Central, Southeast and Southern Plateau languages. The major languages are Berom (300 thousand), quay (300 thousand speakers), Kwanka (220 thousand), Eggon (150 thousand), Katab (130 thousand), Jaba (100 thousand) and Mada (100 thousand).
