Platte County (Wyoming)
Platte County is a county located in the state of Wyoming in the United States. On 1 July 2008 8,294 people lived in Platte County. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wheatland.
Geography
The total area of Platte County is 5467 square kilometers. 5,400 square kilometers are covered by land and 67 square miles of water. This corresponds to a water content of 1.23 percent of the total. This water area is located mainly in Glendo Reservoir in Glendo State Park. The county is bordered clockwise to the County: Niobrara County, Goshen County, Laramie County, Albany County and Converse County.
History
Platte County was formed in 1911.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 8807 people in Platte County. There were 3625 households, and 2494 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.18 % White, 0.16 % African American, 0.50 % Native American, 0.17 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.69 % from other races groups; 1.27% were descended from two or more races. 5.28% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,625 households out of which 30.00 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.90 % were married couples living together, 6.80% percent were single mothers, 31.20% were non-families. 27.30 % of all households and 13.20% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.4 and the average family size was 2.92.
