Location

The plate is located in the southern Snow Mountain range, in the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel. It lies on the Rhine -Elbe watershed. Nearby places are Fichtelbergbahn in the west and in the east Tröstau. Landowner is the Bavarian state.

Nature

The summit area consists of a huge block of granite stockpile of edged granite slabs, rare mosses and lichens colonize the rock debris. The area is reported at 4.1 hectares as a nature reserve. Below the summit of the mountain is covered by coniferous forest. Forest management is carried out by the Bavarian State Forests, Forest Enterprise Fichtelbergbahn.

Name

Documentary is the plate for the first time in 1393 referred to as " the Plancken " at a Rainungsbeschreibung of the forest, who then belonged to the viscounts of Nuremberg. Because the plate-like summit area of ​​the mountain got its name.

Tourism

The trail and the Frankish mountain path leading from the Silver House ( part of the municipality Tröstau on the main road 303 - Fichtelgebirgsstraße/E48 ) to the summit. From the highest point with a wooden cross outstanding views in the Wunsiedler pool with the Leupold Lakeland villages in the foreground, located southeast of the High Matze, Kösseine, the Stone Forest, north Waldstein and Kornberg.
