Platteville is the largest city ( with a status of "City" ) in Grant County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, Platteville had 11,224 inhabitants.

Geography

Platteville is located in southwest Wisconsin about 25 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. The border with Illinois is located 27 km south of the city.

Neighboring towns are Rewey (18,2 km northeast), Belmont ( 13.9 km to the east), Elk Grove ( 13.2 km southeast), Cuba City ( 16.1 km to the south), Dickeyville (18 km southwest), Tennyson (22, 9 miles west) and Ellenboro (13,7 km northwest ).

The nearest large towns are in Dubuque Iowa (36,2 km southwest), Wisconsin's capital, Madison (116 km northeast) and Rockford in Illinois (159 southeast).

Traffic

On the southwestern outskirts runs in south- easterly direction of the freeway -developed U.S. Highway 151, which is the shortest route between Dubuque and Madison. In the center of Platteville Wisconsin Highways 80 and 81 and a number of minor roads meet together.

6.6 km southeast of the city center is the Platteville Municipal Airport.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Platteville 11,224 people in 3588 households. The population density was 1031.6 people per square kilometer. In the 3588 households lived statistically 2.30 per person.
