Plattsburgh Pioneers

The Plattsburgh Pioneers were an American ice hockey team from Plattsburgh, New York. The team played in the 1984/85 season in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League ( QMJHL ).

History

The Plattsburgh Pioneers were founded in 1984 as a franchise of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Pioneers were the first team of the QMJHL from the United States. Since the league wanted to allow no expansion draft for Plattsburgh, we had to deal with an inexperienced, consisting only of Americans, go team in the 1984/85 season. Due to the lack of quality players Plattsburgh lost the first 17 games all, so the team was the worst in the history of the QMJHL. The only point they could get, was a defeat in overtime. In addition, a stadium and coaching change contributed to a chaotic first year, after which the leaders withdrew the franchise after only 17 games from the game mode and it subsequently disbanded.
