Pleasants County, West Virginia

The Pleasants County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. In the census in 2010, the County had 7,605 inhabitants and a population density of 22.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) St. Marys.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern West Virginia, adjacent to Ohio, where the limit by the Ohio River is formed, and has an area of 349 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Pleasants County was formed on March 29, 1851 from parts of Ritchie, Taylor and Wood County. It was named after James Pleasants (1769-1836), a U.S. - Senator (1819-1822) and later Governor of Virginia ( 1922-1825 ).
