Plectorhinchus

Plectorhinchus vittatus

Plectorhinchus is one, comprising over 30 species of the genus sweetlips ( Plectorhynchinae ). Plectorhinchus species occur in tropical and subtropical zones of the western and central Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Two species live on the coasts of the eastern Atlantic, of which Plectorhinchus mediterraneus is also found in the Mediterranean.

Features

Plectorhinchus species 28.5 cm to 105 cm long and have a hochrückige shape with a beefy head and a large to mid-size surrounded by fleshy, thick-lipped mouth. The dorsal fin is continuous, but clearly divided by an indentation in a hard - and soft-rayed a section. Is located at the bottom of the lower lip tip two sensory pores, behind, right on the lip edge four more. A pit at the bottom of the lower jaw is missing. The last two features demarcate the genus of Pomadasys and Brachydeuterus.
