The Plessuralpen (also Plessur Alps) are a mountain range in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The highest peak is the Arosa Rothorn ( 2,980 m above sea level. M. ).
The mountain range is separated by the Plessur into two parts. In the midst of the mountains, the spa Arosa lies with the Welschtobel and the valleys Schanfigg, Urdental, Fondei and Sapün, from outside the resorts such as Klosters, Davos and Lenzerheide.
Location
The Plessurgebirge is assigned to the western Eastern Alps and bordering a central location directly at the western Alps. After the Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE ), the group will be limited as follows:
- In the north- west of the Rhine. This is the limit of AVE - classification of the Eastern Alps. On the other side stands the Calandastock the Glarus Alps
- The Rätikon in the northeast of Prättigau (country quart) forms the border
- From Klosters to Davos borders a small piece of the Silvretta
- In the southeast, the group of the Albula Alps is separated by the passage of water and land to the Albula Tiefencastel
- In the southwest of the Above Steiner Alps by Albula and rear Rhine
The name goes back to the Swiss geologist Bernhard Studer, who described it as " almost pre-Alpine Division " within the Rhaetian Alps.
