Pleternica

Pleternica is a city in the region of Slavonia in Croatia. 2011 lived here 11,323 inhabitants, of whom 3,418 in the town itself

Geography

The town lies at the mouth of the river Londža in the Orljava at the foot of Požega massif ( Požeška Gora ), 12 km southeast of Požega. The 153 meters above the sea city was mentioned in 1270 as " Sveti Nikola " for the first time, the present name was founded in 1427. Pleternica is located southeast of the county ( županija ) Požeško - slavonska. It lies on the so-called golden Požeger level, surrounded by the mountains Psunj, Papuk, Krndija and the Požega massif. Because of the suitable climate and rich soil Pleternica has been inhabited for a long time, which also prove the archaeological research. The rivers Orljava and Londža are suitable for fishing. The waterfall at the Orljava at Pleternica is a well known beauty spot and is especially popular among anglers. Among the other places of the city Frkljevci heard.

History

In the Middle Ages

Due to the medieval archaeological means we learn of the first attempts by the establishment of a Slavonian area in this room. The name Pleternica was mentioned in 1270 for the first time. In the Middle Ages it was known as Saint Nicholas, according to the parish of St. Nicholas. During the 14th and 15th century, there were in the county Požega 80 noble families. At that time there were about 30 castles and fortresses. In the area of ​​community Pleternicer valuable monuments of religious architecture were recorded and preserved from the Middle Ages. The most valuable are the Gothic church of Saint Dimitri, Church of St. Michael, the Chapel of St. Kuzma and Damjan in Baroque style and the Church of All Saints.

Pleternica during the Turkish rule

1536, the Turks conquered Pleternica and she fell under their rule. During the 155- year rule Pleternica was one of the major transport nodes. During the whole period the Turks were trying to convert the Croats to Islam, but the strong will of the Christian Croats remained continuously resistant. The Christian citizens had to provide services in the Turkish army, leave a tenth of their harvest, and among other things still Harač - tax to the Sultan in Carigrad - pay.

Pleternica during the Habsburg Monarchy

Full Slavonia, thus Pleternica were liberated from the Turks in 1688. Since that time Pleternica was under the rule of many feudal lords, the most important of which were Teodor Ivan, Ivan Baron Peterffi and Jacob Svetic. In 1997 Pleternica gets the status of a city.

Economy and Trade

In Pleternica the economy and trade have developed very early because of favorable geographical position. A branch railway line and the coincidence of several roads favor the development of transit tourism. In 1882/83 a saving community has been established, which was among the first ten saving communities in Slavonia. In the 20th century there is an organization of traders in the Croatian Dealers Association in Pleternica. It made ​​with 65 dealers. The village association organized for its members convenient goods, sufficient markets; among others, the Association worked with the better position of the merchants in the company, the training of young people and the construction of the commercial schools, the organization of parties, meetings and presentations for traders. In 1910, a hydroelectric plant was built on the river next to Orljava Pleternica.

Klikun

Klikun is a well known quality wine which was in 1867, on the first dalmatisch - Croatian- Slavonian exhibition in Zagreb presented. This wine was exported to Vienna, where it was sold in the restaurant hall winery. The Klikun vineyards experienced their great renewal under the direction of Mr. Bauer, a Agronomieingenieur and farmer. During his leadership, the wine Klikun won many prizes and awards.

Novenas ( in Croatian " Devetnice " ) in honor of the " Virgin in tears "

Since 31 August 2005, Pleternica has become one of the most important cities in the Holy Mother of God. The Rector of the Shrine "Mother of God in tears " msg. Michele Giansiarcusa has a silk scarf, with the tears have been wiped away by a statue of the Mother of God, brought during the novenas after Pleternica. The novenas are present since 1955 in Pleternica and in that time we honor the Mother of God. It takes place from 31 August 23 August.

The parish church of St. Nicholas was built in 1967 to a design by Stjepan Plania at the site of the destroyed in 1944 Baroque church.

In Pleternica the traditional folklore event Lidas is held.
