Pleurodesis

As pleurodesis, surgery is referred to, in which the pleura ( visceral pleura ) and the pleura ( parietal pleura ) is connected.

This operation is performed in order to forestall the recurrence of pneumothorax or pleural effusion - an air or fluid accumulation can be prevented.

Implementation

One way to connect the two pleural layers, the bonding. By introducing talc into the pleural inflammation is thereby artificially generated, closing the gap, thereby preventing an accumulation of liquid. Other ways of bonding are drugs such as Tetracycline or bleomycin. Furthermore, by partial removal of the pleural bonding can be achieved (partial pleurectomy ). This is done especially with repeated accumulation of air ( pneumothorax relapsed ).
