Ploumanac'h lighthouse

Phare de Ploumanac'h, officially: Phare de Mean Ruz, is a lighthouse built in 1945 on the Channel coast of Brittany in the département of Côtes- d'Armor, France.

Location

The 15 m high lighthouse marks the entrance to the port of Ploumanac, which belongs to the municipality of Perros -Guirec. Its scope is 12 nautical miles ( white) and 9 nautical miles ( red). From the lighthouse you have a good view of the castle Costaérès, the current second home of actor Dieter Hallervorden, the island and the archipelago Renote Sept Îles.

History

The original lighthouse Ploumanac from 1860, was destroyed in 1944 during the Second World War and replaced by the 1945 commissioned in the current tower. His white light is visible to the island Rouzic. Was realized the tower, designed by Henry Auffret.

Etymology

The name derives from the village of Ploumanac, which probably means something like community of monks. Mean Ruz means from the Breton translated the red stone.
