Plumbline

A mason cord ( also guideline ) is a taut string, which is used by masons to both vertically and horizontally aligned single wall bricks or blocks, ie in a " dead straight " line to wall up.

Horizontal

First, the Eckziegel be set clean. Then the Maurer cord is clamped at the top of the cornerstones. Usually the cord at both ends is to each wrapped around a loose stone, and then each of these stones is placed on the first corner stones carefully set. The line then runs between the upper outer edge of the cornerstones.

Vertical

The vertical is determined by a solder, i.e. a weight which is tied to the lower end of a masonry line.

Then, the intermediate bricks can be arranged in both the run and at the height along the tensioned, non- sagging cord.

Reinforce corners

Often the master underpins the four corners of a floor to full storey height. These four corners provide the fellows then the default for the provision of the bricklayers cord and the brick lining of the individual layers of stone.
