Plumelec

Plumelec ( Breton: Pluveleg; Gallo: plumelec ) is a commune with 2703 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. Plumelec is part of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de Communes Saint -Jean- Brévelay Communauté. .

The residents of the community are called Méléciens.

Location

Plumelec located in the southern part of Brittany in the center of the department of Morbihan and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are Billio and Cruguel in the north, Lizio in the northeast, Sérent in the east, Trédion in the south, Plaudren the southwest and west and Saint -Jean- Brévelay in the northwest.

In Plumelec cross numerous streets. Main regional transport links are the D126 from Vannes to Josselin and the D778 from Vannes and Saint -Jean- Brévelay to Josselin. However, the routes for inter-regional traffic as the N24 from Lorient to Rennes in the north and the N166 Vannes- Ploërmel in the south are far away.

The river Claie is the main waters of the municipality. Along the river is partially on the municipal boundary.

Population

History

The district Locmaria is mentioned in 1115 in a document of the Benedictine monastery of Saint- Sulpice as its possession. Plumelec itself is first mentioned in 1426 under the name Ploemellec. The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro - Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Reter Bro Gwened (French Vannetais oriental ) and shares his story. From 1801 until its dissolution on 10 September 1926, she was part of the arrondissement Ploërmel. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801 formed Plumelec its own canton. Since then, the church is assigned to the District of Saint -Jean- Brévelay.
