Plzeň-City District

Okres Plzeň- město ( German: District Pilsen- city) is a district and former administration in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It is the smallest district but at the same time the Region with the highest population density in Plzeň. 181 600 inhabitants living in an area of 261.46 km ². The majority of the area is the city of Pilsen with a population share of about 92%.

Until 31 December 2006, the city of Pilsen was the only place in the district. On 1 January 2007, the area around the communities Dýšina, Chrást u Plzně and Kyšice from the Okres Plzeň -sever, the city of Stary Plzenec and the communities Chválenice, Letkov, Lhůta, Losiná, Mokrouše, Nezbavětice, Nezvěstice, Šťáhlavy was Štěnovický Borek expanded and Tymákov from the Okres Plzeň -jih.

Economy

It is a heavily industrialized and urbanized area. The most important industries are mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and brewing and spirits industries. The largest employers include: Škoda, Matsushita Television Central Europe, Panasonic, Siemens and the Pilsner Urquell brewery. Agriculture plays little role in contrast to the 4,000 construction companies and 14,000 commercial establishments in the district. Unemployment is at 7.4%. In 2001, in the district of 77,000 visitors, including 42,000 foreigners who remained about 3.2 days.
