Pneumatic cylinder

A pneumatic cylinder is a maximum of 12 bar operated by compressed air ( depending on the cylinder type) cylinder. Pneumatic cylinders are used in many pneumatic applications, such as in injection molds, conveyor, drive, or handling technology.

A basic distinction between single and double pneumatic cylinders acted upon, also called single-acting or double-acting cylinders.

The circuit symbols for pneumatic cylinders are standardized according to ISO 1219.

Since compressed air is compressible, it can come in the context of the stick -slip effect to jerky start of the cylinders. The means of accurately positioning, eg in the context of an attitude control are limited for the same reasons. As alternatives for certain areas of application are electric cylinders and hydraulic cylinders.
