Poble Espanyol

The Poble Espanyol ( Catalan for ' Spanish Village ', in Spanish Pueblo Español) is an open air museum in Barcelona, Spain. On the occasion of the World Exhibition in Barcelona, the Poble Espanyol was built in 1929 on an area of ​​49,000 m² at the foot of the Montjuïc mountain.

The Poble Espanyol was built in 13 months and should be torn down after the world exhibition. The success during the world exhibition led to the decision, the Museum continued to operate. To this day, it is an attraction for tourists from around the world.

The 117 buildings are not always faithful to the original, replicas from all eras, cultures and regions of Spain. The "village " with its streets and squares to show a characteristic architectural image of the different Spanish architectural styles. The buildings include a Romanesque monastery, a church, a town hall, parts of palaces and town houses. The Poble Espanyol is entered through a replica of the gate of the Holy Vizenz ( Puerta de Ávila), part of the city walls of Ávila.

Cottage industry goods are produced and sold in traditional techniques. To see include a glass factory, a pottery and workshops for the manufacture of musical instruments, toys, jewelry. In several places to eat local dishes are offered. At events folk dances, music and traditions will be presented in exhibitions of art.
