Pocilloporidae

Seriatopora hystrix in an aquarium

The Pocilloporidae are a family of stony corals ( Scleractinia ). Like most other stony corals live most Pocilloporidae in a symbiotic relationship with algae ( zooxanthellae ) that supply the coral with nutrients. The closely related genera Pocillopoa, Seriatopora and Stylopora live in the reefs in shallow water and form small bush -like colonies. They like to be kept in saltwater aquariums by experienced aquarists because of their color.

The genus contains many Madracis species that live in deep water without symbiosis with zooxanthellae.
