Pocket

A pocket is sewn into a garment or something sewn small bag for carrying small items or for plugging in a fabric cloth for decoration.

The term pocket with respect to the containers located on or in clothing is a naturalized from the North German term. In the Swabian-Alemannic language regions it is also called Seckel or purse ( a small bag). The term is used in modifications ( Säckchesack, Säckchedasch ) up in the South Hessian part of the Frankish language region. Clothing bags are available in Europe until the 16th century, before that served belt pockets for storage of small everyday objects.

Types of bags

There is a distinction between nähtechnisch

  • PHONY pocket and
  • Situated Sewn pocket.

Depending on the application in different articles of clothing one speaks of

  • Pocket
  • Jacket or coat pocket, especially ticket pocket

Phrases

There are many phrases that relate to the clothing bag:

  • Fill their own pockets .... / economies ... = unlawfully enrich
  • Have ... the hand on the bag ... = not like to part with his money
  • Someone ... lie on the bag ... = are supported financially by someone
  • Pull someone ... the money out of your pocket ... = someone exploit or exclude
  • ... dig deep into their pockets to pay ... = expensive for something
  • Be ... someone stuck in the bag ... = superior to someone
