Poedit

Poedit is a free, graphical tool for computer-aided translation of documentation and program interfaces. It is a graphical frontend to the tools of the GNU gettext system, the translation files were po eponymous with the extension *. .

The source code of the open source version are available under the MIT license on GitHub available. The software runs on Unix-like (Linux, Mac OS X, ...) and Windows systems. Many popular Linux distributions, it can be installed directly from the standard repositories.

For the surface, the class library is used wxWidgets. For the translation memory functionality, the Berkeley DB will be used.

With version 1.1.1, the translation memory functionality has been introduced. Since version 1.3.5 native support for Mac OS X systems is included.

PoEdit Pro

Since version 1.6.1 there is also a paid Pro version with which to translate WordPress Themes. The program has added its own proprietary license and for the full function must be purchased a license key. The open source version under the MIT license is no longer offered as a precompiled binary for download.
