History

In the near Poggio Reale excavations have been made, which go back to a settlement from the 7th century BC. The old village was founded in 1642 at a height of 393 m in the Ghibellines mountains. The settlement was destroyed in the 1968 earthquake and completely abandoned by their inhabitants. From a distance, the village seems to be intact, but it's a ghost town. Its ruins are the most impressive monument of the destruction left by the earthquake disaster in Sicily. Further south, the new village was built.
