Pohrebyshche

Pohrebyschtsche (Ukrainian: Погребище; Russian: Pogrebischtsche, Polish: Pohrebyszcze ) is a city in the Vinnytsia Oblast of Ukraine. It lies about 64 kilometers northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Vinnytsia at the river Ros and is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons Pohrebyschtsche.

The site has been mentioned around 1148 for the first time in writing and was a first in the province Kiev to Poland. 1795 Pohrebyschtsche eventually became part of the Russian Empire and was in the government of Kiev. 1938 was the place the status of an urban-type settlement, since 1984 it is a city. End of the 19th century, a railway station was built at a newly constructed railway line north-east of the actual location. The high proportion of the Jewish population was wiped out during World War II in mass executions mostly.
