Poilly-lez-Gien

Poilly -lez- Gien is a commune with 2370 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Loiret in the Centre region; it belongs to the administrative district of Montargis and Gien Canton.

The place is located in the Unité urbaine from Gien. A part of the area is within the framework of Natura 2000 protected.

The name coming from the Latin suggests the yard of a man named Paullius. From the Gallo -Roman culture an ax and other items were found in the municipality. The place was inhabited in the time of the Merovingian and medieval times.

1567 the local church by Protestants was partially destroyed. 1836 Expansion and restoration work on the church were made. The town hall was built in 1858.

The population, which stood at 1366 1962 was 1990 already risen to 2301.

The village has a primary school and a College.
