Point MacKenzie is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Matanuska- Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States. The area is situated between the southern bank of the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet and the Little Susitna River at the Point MacKenzie Road south of Big Lake and southwest of Wasilla.
History
The area of present-day CDPs Point MacKenzie was first settled by the local indigenous people of the Dena'ina Athabaskan -. Ships have made on the way to the Knik Arm in adverse weather conditions often in Point MacKenzie Rast. 1915 Docks and a canning factory built near Goose Bay. 1958 a missile base on the Goose Bay was built. This offered job opportunities and promoted the settlement in the area. The missile base is no longer in operation today.
Demography
At the time of the census in 2000 ( U.S. Census 2000) Point MacKenzie CDP had 111 inhabitants on a land area of 383.3 km ². The mean age was 38.3 years (national average of the United States: 35.3 years ). The per capita income ( per capita income engl. ) amounted to U.S. $ 23.228 ( U.S. National Average: U.S. $ 21,587 ). 22.7 % of residents were with their income below the poverty line ( national U.S. average: 12.4% ) .9,0 % of the inhabitants are of German origin, and 5.4 % are descended from the original inhabitants of Alaska.
Economy and infrastructure
Many residents work in Palmer, Wasilla and Anchorage. The industrial port of Port MacKenzie is currently used mainly for the shipment of prefabricated houses in remote rural areas. The area is accessible via the Knik Road and the George Parks Highway. For air transport is a private airstrip available.
